Every now and then a horse comes along that just feels meant to be part of the River Creek family. That's exactly how we felt when we first met Juniper — a gentle seven-year-old bay Thoroughbred mare who arrived at the farm last month from a rescue organization in the next county. She was surrendered by her previous owner due to financial hardship, and the rescue reached out to us knowing we had the space and experience to give her a great second chapter.
When Juniper first stepped off the trailer, she was underweight, a little nervous, and clearly unsure of her new surroundings. But within hours, something shifted. She found a spot by the fence near Willow and Duke, and the three of them have been inseparable ever since. Our barn manager, Sarah, has been working with Juniper every day — slow groundwork sessions, hand-grazing in the meadow, and just quiet time building trust. The transformation over just a few weeks has been remarkable.
Juniper has a naturally calm disposition and a smooth, steady gait that makes her an excellent candidate for our intermediate trail rides. Our team has been evaluating her carefully, and we're optimistic that she'll be trail-ready by early summer. She's already comfortable with saddling, mounting, and walking the arena with a rider. Once she's fully conditioned and has passed her vet clearance, she'll join the rotation on our Creek Loop trail — one of the more relaxed routes that suits her temperament perfectly.
